Hubs and I always spoke about getting engaged young and having a long engagement, but I honestly never really thought much more about when it would happen or even how.
At the end of every year, my family go on a big trip the week before Christmas. This particular year (2010) we were heading to Hastings Point in Northern NSW. I remember not being very excited for this trip because we were camping and the forecast showed a lot of rain.
I reluctantly packed my bags and got lots of chocolate to try and make the trip slightly more bearable. We began the 2 hour trip down the coast.
We decided to stop at a beach along the way. Hubs was fiddling around in the back of the ute 'readjusting some straps that had come under' and I didn't think anything of it. He was getting the ring ready to propose!
We walked down the beach, I looked around and took a couple of photos of the beach. "Okay, let's go back to the car, it's too hot to sit here." Poor Hubs, little did I know but I had just ruined his plan to propose while we walked down the beach. Ooops

Our next stop was Kingscliff where we have actually holidayed a few times
before. It's an absolutely beautiful area. We decided to go for a walk
along the beach before lunch, but when we got there the beach was closed
due to erosion. We decided to just go and grab some fish and chips and
sit in a little shelter.
By this stage, I was beginning to think our holiday might actually be okay because I was eating my favourite meal with my favourite person next to my favourite beach. Hubs was starting to get nervous at this point, but I didn't notice because...well...fish and chips.
Next minute, he pulls a box out of his pocket and I was pretty much just in shock. That's when he asked me to be his wifey and I couldn't stop giggling and hugging and kissing him. That's when he said, "Sooo I guess that's a no then?" Ooops, I forgot to say yes!
I managed to stay tear free until Hubs told me I needed to ring my Dad who had been waiting patiently for my call. Hubs had asked him for his permission a few days beforehand and that was it. I couldn't stop crying!
We hopped back into the car after a few phone calls to my Dad and bestie and that's when my Mum's car pulled up beside us. I could see my sisters peering over the back seats trying to see my face. They all knew hubs was going to propose and they were trying to guess whether it had happened yet or not. When we got to the camping grounds, we got to share our exciting news with almost all of my family. A lot of happy tears later and almost everyone knew!We told my grandparents in person a few days later when they came down for the day.
That afternoon, we headed down to the beach and Mum took some photos of us together so that we could remember this day forever!

So we got engaged at 20 years old in December of 2010. We had our engagement party a few months after and the rest is history!
